apostles

so im on this little journey of wanting to know more about apostles and prophets and what that means today.

the verse that got me first thinking was eph. 4:11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers.

and then
1 cor.12:28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

my friend carrie pointed me to crosswaslk.com and with the little amount that i was studying i think that my conclusion is that the gift that was given to an apostle and a prohpet was an extrordinary gift. it also said that apostles were the ones that witnessed christs resurection and were chosen directly from christ.

im going to keep looking into all of this but i would like your feedback...

do you think that apostles were only the 12 disciples + paul?
or can there be apostles in the present day?

about the prophets.. i need to read more.
